Most information shows the Nathan Ward born in 1713 to George Wells and Susannah Plummer to be the same one who died in 1803 in Grayson County, VA. Records show the one born in 1713 married to a Margaret and the one in Grayson married to a Sarah. Also, the children of the later were all born in the 1770's or later, when Nathan would have been in his 60's. I have found obscure references to a Nathan Ward born about 1730, but no definitive information on him. Is it possible that I am missing a generation here? Did the Nathan born 1713 and Margaret have a son, Nathan II, who married a Sarah and migrated to Grayson County, VA and died there in 1803?

My main tree shows Nathan Ward (married to Sara) as a grandson of Nathan Ward married to Margaret. In fact so far, my main tree shows at least 15 men named Nathan Ward. But these 2 1st named Nathans are in my direct ancestor path

So, there were actually 2 generations, 1713 Nathan, Nathan II, Nathan III and the Nathan who died in 1803. Is that correct? Would you mind sharing your line? At least give some info to get me on the right path. I have seen references to a Nathan born 1730's and one in the 1750s, but nothing to tie them together.

my line is Nathan Ward (1713-1803) m Margaret- father of Wells Ward (1735-1821) m Rebecca Osborn-father of Nathan Ward (1761-1835) m Sara Hope this helps

So, Wells Ward was by Margaret, and Nathan Jr and others, William, Enoch, Margaret and Elizabeth, were by Sarah? Do you have birth & death dates for Margaret (1st wife) and Sarah? i think Sarah died ca. 1808. Were there any other children, maybe a James? There was a Wells and James in Botetourt, VA in 1771 and a Nathan and Zachariah in 1773.

Margaret (1715-1811) mother of Nathan (1730-1856), James (1755-1808), Wells (1735-1821), Enoch (dates unknown to me) Please realize, I am still researching all these people though not actively ATM
The dates I have for Sara/Sarah (1765-1849) I have too many children supposedly from this family to be all true but have those you mentioned but not a James (yet!) Again, still putting this family together and of course not the documentayion I'd wish for

Here is what I have found so far. Nathan was married to Margaret in Prince Georges MD - date unknown. He was married to Sarah in Grayson Co., VA per deeds and will in the last few years of his life. His will lists 4 sons, Nathan, Jr., William, Wells and Enoch along with wife, Sarah. Via circumstantial evidence, it would seem there were at least 2 daughters, Margaret who married Morris Davis and Elizabeth who married Jeffery Clark. Though there is no direct connection for these 2, they lived and married men in the Cole Creek area of Grayson where Nathan lived, They are supposedly buried in the Cole Creek area, The other Nathan Ward in Grayson Co., lived in the Saddle Creek area, quite some distance from the Cole Creek area and most of his family owned land in that area, which somewhat distinguishes the two from each other. I have found birth dates for Nathan, Jr and William in the 1770's and Enoch probably the same time period. Same for the 2 daughters.
Margaret (1st wife) is said to be buried in the Cole Creek area of Grayson Co., though there is no gravestone to prove it. Sarah seems to have still been living as late as 1822 per deeds she signed, and maybe later. If Margaret lived until 1811 and was buried in the Cole Creek area, there is a significant overlap between she and Sarah. Did Nathan divorce Margaret and marry Sarah? I am finding lots of pieces of this family's info, but some of the pieces don't seem to fit exactly. This whole family is one of the biggest enigmas of any I have researched, and it is frustrating.
